Steps to Add More Personality to your Home

If you feel as though your home is lacking a bit of personality, then this is the guide for you. Here you will find out what steps you can take to not only increase the personality of your home but also make sure that you’re not missing out on things that could be holding your property back.

Avoid Trends

One of the best things you can do, if you want your home to feel great, is to avoid trends and simply try to collect what you love. You also need to make sure that you use this as an opportunity to collect the things that you love and go from there. If you can do this and disregard everything else you know, then this will help you to focus more on the things that have meaning to you. You may also find that you can keep cherished memories of some of your past adventures, whether they cost you any money or not, which will help you a lot. By honing in on things like this, you will find that it is easier for you to not only save money, but it also contributes less waste into the big wide world, which is great.

Layer Everything

Layering everything is so important. Have you ever walked into a home and felt as though it was just devoid of existence? At the end of the day, too much empty space can feel cold, and it can also feel somewhat alienating. On the flip side, if you have a room that is layered with objects everywhere, then this can help you to really make sure that you space things out. Just make sure that you try to find ways to spread things out a little more. too. It may be that you have a tray full of trinkets on it so you can store them more efficiently, rather than dumping them all on a shelf.

Use Colour

Another thing you can do is try to make sure that you use colour to your advantage. You need to make sure that you are taking the time to incorporate a bit of colour where you can. Adding pops of colour is a good way for you to try and make sure that you are not ending up with a home that is too beige. You can go all-out here with a bit of an eye-catching statement, or you can try to add a bit of personality to the space by opting for statement wallpaper. Just like using a real colour, choose something that’s rich and lively here. You don’t need to go for something bright either, as sometimes going for something that is a little more tame can help you to get the result you need. If you want to avoid decorating yourself, hiring a painting company can be a good workaround.

Imperfection is Fine

At the end of the day, one thing you have to remember is that imperfection is fine. It’s tempting to get a little bit precious when it comes to your home decor, and that’s having everything arranged just how you like it. With that said, having some looser arrangements can help you to make everything feel a bit more dynamic. You also need to make sure that you don’t throw anything away, like broken plates or the drips of wax that you might have on your candle holder. If you can make sure that you don’t do this, then you will find that you are able to make things easier on yourself, while making your space feel a lot more dynamic and authentic.

Create Comfort

Creating a sense of comfort is often the best thing to do. Part of feeling like you are right at home is having a place where you can let your hair down and truly relax. It’s okay for you to have formal rooms that are much more focused on aesthetics, but at the same time, there are some areas where comfort is valid. Creating soft and plush accents can work well here, so try to make sure that you keep that in mind, as it will make a big difference to you. You may also want to add a textured throw to your sofa or some extra pillows.

Old and New

Another thing you need to do is try to focus on blending the old and the new. Nothing will bring more character into your home than having some older pieces. It may be that you need to lean into furniture and antiquities more, and that you also make sure that you choose things that are more special and unique. This will lend way more appeal, and it will also mix things up a bit for your home.  Older furniture may show its age and it may also look a bit worn compared to your other pieces, but at the end of the day, there is a bit of magic that you can bring into your home as each piece will truly shine on its own. Things like this can make a big difference to you, and you would be surprised at how much it could help you to not only make the most out of your home, but to also make sure that you are embracing what you have in the best way possible.

Decorate with Value

If you are a consumer, then you may find that you have a positive impact on the world by buying products that are better for the planet. Put objects like this on display in your home because when you do, you will find that you can bring some good energy in, and this will help you a lot. You may also find that you’re able to get a way better result out of your home and make sure that you’re always decorating with intent, so make sure that you keep this in mind. If you have something made by a dedicated potter or even a glass blower then this will feel more unique compared to a mass-produced product, so keep that in mind.
