The Best Dog Friendly Travel Destinations

Don’t worry about having to find a dog sitter next time you plan a vacation and book a trip to one of these dog-friendly destinations instead.

Solo travel is empowering and exciting, but it can sometimes be nerve-wracking to leap into a new destination alone. Luckily, that’s what pets are for! Traveling with your furry companion still gives you the independent feeling of solo travel with a little extra support from your four-legged friend.

Don’t take your dog along for the ride and then leave them in the hotel. Take a trip to one of the best dog-friendly travel destinations so they can enjoy the vacation too.

Bend, Oregon

Visit Bend, OR if you’re looking for a more active trip for you and your pet. Bend has plenty of river trails, national forests, and lakes for the two of you to explore.

Try a difficult mountain hike to challenge yourself and your pup, or go for a more relaxing off-leash exploration on the Deschutes river trail. Here, your dog can enjoy a walk with their companion and a swim in the river, while you enjoy the serenity of the nature surrounding you.

Sedona, Arizona

For a mix of the adventure Bend has to offer and something a little more enlightening, try visiting Sedona, AZ. There are plenty of red rock hiking trails to explore with your dog. After all the exercise, you can let your dog rest back at the hotel while you enjoy Sedona’s reputation for spiritual thinking. Take part in some physical and mental renewal classes to grow as an individual on your vacation.

Sanibel Island, Florida

If you’re simply looking for some R&R with your dog, check out Sanibel Island, Florida. Located on Florida’s Gulf Coast, Sanibel Island has plenty of dog-friendly beaches. Enjoy lounging in the sand with your pooch or walking the shoreline together in search of seashells.

Austin, Texas

Austin, Texas has a variety of activities to offer you and your dog. Go on a 10-mile hike on the trail and boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake, or visit the pet-friendly lawn of the state capitol building. Check out any of the dozens of dog-friendly restaurants to savor the cuisines Austin is known for, such as Tex-Mex and BBQ.

Looking for a way to relax after trekking through trails and indulging in Austin’s cuisine? Austin pays homage to the phrase downward dog by offering “doga”–dog yoga sessions you can join with your companion by your side.

Asheville, North Carolina

Ashville is a hidden beauty of the east, especially when the leaves start to turn in the fall. Walk around the gorgeous Biltmore Estate grounds or take a road trip with your dog along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Choose from a range of hiking trails, beautiful lookout points perfect for a photo op, or dip into a quaint mountain town for a souvenir.

Bringing your dog along on your next solo vacation can make your trip alone seem a little less daunting. Visit one of the best dog-friendly travel destinations to make sure it’s a trip you both enjoy.
