Transforming an Unloved Space into a Home-Based Haven

Transforming an unloved space in the home will help you make better use of what you have while providing more functionality. This can be space for working, playing, or hobbies, and from creating a micro-office to an indoor greenhouse, here are some popular suggestions.

Design the Space for Wellness

Wellness and wellbeing are the foundation of healthy living these days, especially when it comes to mental health. Designing a space around your personal wellness needs can provide the escape you need at home. If you are planning something like a bathroom remodel, this is the perfect opportunity to create something for mindfulness. For instance, you can go minimal with sound-deepening rugs, smart lighting you can control, and calming wellness décor.

Craft a Micro-Office for Productivity

Working from home is pretty common these days, whether you are out of the office for a few days a week, busy with a side hustle, or working as a full-time freelancer. However, rather than taking up space on the dining table, or cracking your back with a laptop on the couch, you can create a dedicated space for getting your work done. Perhaps there is ample space under the stairs, in an unused closet, or in the corner of the living room for a desk, chair, and lighting.

Transforming an Unloved Space for Reading

It might be shocking to learn that a UK survey found that only 1 in 7 primary schools in Britain has a library! However, the benefits of reading as a young person, and as an adult to your kids, are well documented, including better emotional intelligence and school grades. As such, creating a dreamy home library where you can spend hours in another world or studying is an ideal way to use up a corner of the home, and of course, you can make it as cozy as you like.

Creating an Indoor Green Space

If you love plants and have a room that gets a lot of sun, such as a forgotten conservatory, you can use the space for growing plants. Plants of all kinds can be grown indoors without having to venture outside into the garden, and you can even use deep planters for vegetables. If the sun is strong enough, you can even grow exotic plants like chilies, tomatoes, and fruits. An indoor space like this provides food, but it also teaches responsibility and becomes a new hobby.

Outfitting for Your Hobbies

Further to hobbies, a dedicated space for doing something you love is one of the best uses for a part of the home. If you love video games but your partner just wants to watch Netflix in the living room, then creating a dedicated hobby space in your home becomes necessary. A space of your own, whether it’s for crafting, playing games, or just hanging out, gives you an incentive to decorate an unused space, gets you out of the way, and removes the potential for arguments.

Summary

Designing a room for wellbeing and wellness is one of the more functional ways of transforming an unloved space. With a shocking lack of public and school libraries, something like a reading nook is essential, and you can also create a space dedicated to enjoying your favorite hobbies.
