Slow Travel: What It Is And Why You Might Like It

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to just pull your car over, get out, and sit down on the side of the road for the next 10 minutes or so?

Or maybe you’ve been on vacation before and thought about all the different ways you would like to stop and take in your surroundings, without all the noise, or someone bumping into you, or a tour guide hurrying you on?

If either of these questions have ever been on your mind before, you’re going to love the concept of slow travel.

What is Slow Travel?

Slow travel is all about experiencing your trips in a more mindful way. Simply put, it’s all about slowing down and really taking in the environment around you.

You’re not just ‘passing through’. You’re not rushing to get from one point to another. You’re doing what you want, when you want, and you’re not keeping an eye on the clock.

Every part of the trip, from the journey to the waiting times to the frustrations of trying to get a booking sorted, are elements of the experience.

How to Go on a Slow Travel Trip

Take your usual travel plans and slow them down a bit!

But seriously, it’s not too challenging to try out a slower paced, careful travel experience – especially if you’re the kind of person who likes to take off a week or more in the first place.

Take an RV

With an RV, you’ve got a house on the road with you. And that makes for the best kind of slow travel experience.

You’ve got a little kitchen and living room right there to make use of, as well as somewhere comfortable to sleep at night. You’ve probably also got your own miniature bathroom to use, if you need it. And that means you can go at a snail’s pace and still have a great time.

Check into an RV campground on your trip and you’ll find out just how beneficial an RV is for the slow travel mindset.

With all kinds of amenities at a campground like this, including hookup points where you can get your own electricity and water (and wifi), many people even use grounds like these like a second home.

Do the Things You Want to Do

Sounds pretty obvious, right? But you wouldn’t believe how many people go on vacation and simply pack out their schedule with all kinds of activities they wouldn’t usually look twice at.

And that’s the kind of thing slow travel clamps down on.

You’re here to enjoy your time, and to be more meaningful in the way you interact with the world around you.

Your itinerary shouldn’t be packed to the brim. You should have the things you want to do and that’s it. This lets you take your time soaking up everything the experience has to offer.

Sick of rushing around on vacation? Slow travel might just be perfect for your next trip.
