Reasons To Travel Off the Beaten Path

There’s something quite appealing about going somewhere that’s not on every must see list or website, and that’s not because the popular places aren’t good, but because the quieter destinations just tend to feel a bit more relaxed (especially since you’re probably not rushing from one attraction to the next). In other words, you can slow down a bit, you’ll notice more, and you’ll actually enjoy being there. With that in mind, here are some reasons to travel off the beaten path.

You Get A Slower Pace

One of the biggest differences is the pace you get to experience. The problem with the popular places is that they’ll come with queues, crowds, and tight schedules, and before very long your trip can just feel very tiring.

In a quieter location, however, you’ll have more time and space, and you can just wander around or enjoy the moment that much more. By the time you get back home, you’ll feel rested and happy, which can’t always be said for the more popular destinations.

It Feels More Authentic

Less crowded places tend to hold onto their local character more than the ones that the tourists go to a lot, which means you’re more likely to find independent cafes, small shops, and conversations with locals who are happy to stop and chat, for example.

There’s also something really special about discovering places that don’t feel as though they’ve been done up – or even created – for the tourists; they’ll feel absolutely genuine and that can make the whole trip feel much better.

It’s Easier To Be Flexible

Travelling away from busy hotspots makes it much easier to change plans if you want to, and you’re not going to have to book everything weeks in advance, plus you can just decide what you feel like doing that day, so you won’t be stressed and rushed.

If you’re travelling by road, it’s even easier because you can take detours, stop at viewpoints, stay longer in a place you like, leave somewhere you didn’t, or anything else you want to do. Finding a quiet RV park along the way can be fantastic as well because you’ll have a chance to rest and relax without the crowds.

Better Value Without Trying

Another benefit of that off the beaten path destinations are very often more affordable than the tourist areas, and you’ll find that accommodation, food, and activities tend to cost less, and you’re less likely to encounter inflated tourist prices. That means you can stretch your budget further without having to compromise on anything, which is always a shame if you have to do it.

And because things are less busy, you’ll also feel a lot more relaxed and comfortable, which makes the trip even better value for money

More Room To Explore

When places aren’t too crowded, you’re going to explore more just because you can, and you’ll probably be more spontaneous, which means you’ll make a lot more memories along the way than you would if everything was structured and rushed through.

Since there’s less pressure to follow a strict itinerary, you can just let things happen naturally, which is very exciting.
