The Essential Dos & Don’ts For Your Next RVing Break

If you want your next RV break to go smoothly and be as enjoyable as possible, you have come to the right place. Just keep reading for our essential dos and don’ts for RV success.

Don’t overload your RV

Unfortunately, one of the most common mistakes when driving is to pack as much as possible into your vehicle before you leave.  The main issue with this is that going over the weight limit can actually damage your vehicle, something that is very important if you own it.  In addition, going over the weight limits can make your RV unsafe to drive,  meaning you could end up risking people’s lives just because you brought some extra stuff.

Instead, it’s a good idea to know exactly how much your RVS wake capacity is.  You can even weigh a load off a truck stop, which is best to do at the beginning of your journey, so you can remove any items that are putting you over the limit.

Do reserve your space at a campsite in advance

One way that you can make sure your next break goes smoothly is to reserve a space at a good RV Park before you leave. You can spot a good RV Park because they will offer full hookups,  reliable Wi-Fi,  clean showers and bathrooms,  and the very best will be pet-friendly too, so you won’t need to leave Fido at home.

It’s important to book your space in an RV campsite ahead of time because the best ones always get reserved well before the most popular season.  What that means is if you want a chance to stay in one of the best RV parks, then booking ahead is crucial.

Do be a good RV neighbour

Once you get to your RV Park, it’s a good idea to make sure you are being a good neighbour. What this means is don’t extend your RV warning slides or chairs beyond the boundaries of the particular site you have booked.

It’s also prudent to prevent your pets from roaming free or wandering into the sites of your neighbours, and whatever you do, never block any roadways or common areas. Last of all, do you remember that many people choose to be in the countryside because of the peace involved, so keeping music and other media that is played out loud to a minimum is a good way to maintain a positive relationship with any site neighbours.

Do check the weather

How many RV sites are incredibly comfortable, so much so that it can feel like you are staying at home? It’s still important that you check the weather every day.  This is because your awnings and seating will need to be secured if the weather is expected to be particularly strong.

Additionally, putting in any slides in high winds will help keep you and anyone else in your RV safe in strong weather.  Last of all, it’s always better to identify a safe place in which you can take shelter if the weather becomes severe.  Usually, you won’t need to use this, but it’s better to know and not need it than the other way around.
