Many people can benefit from therapy. But just what type of therapy is right for you? There are many different approaches that can benefit different types of people, concerns and goals. Finding the best fit involves understanding your unique needs. Below are a few questions worth asking yourself that can help you find the right type of therapy.

Start by considering what your main concerns are. Is it stress, relationship issues, trauma healing, phobias, depression or something else?

  • Animal-assisted therapy: This involves incorporating animals to reduce anxiety. 
  • Wilderness therapy: Adventure seekers may find that this type of therapy – involving outdoor activities – helps provide answers.
  • Group therapy: This involves meeting up with other people who are going through similar struggles to share feelings and coping strategies. 

How to choose the right therapist

When looking for the right therapist, it is okay to try out sessions with different people in different settings. This will help you to see what clicks. Consider reading reviews of therapists to find an individual that is reputable. Healthcare professionals like doctors may also be able to recommend certain therapists. 

The cost of therapy is important to consider too – there are free services out there, but most are paid. Insurance could potentially cover certain types of treatment.
