Creating a warm, inviting living space is so important – just imagine how unpleasant your home would be if you had to sit somewhere that was miserable, cold, and generally not very welcoming; you wouldn’t like it. And since you’re sure to spend a lot of time in your living room, whether you’re alone, with your family or partner, or with friends, you’ll want to do what you can to make it as warm and inviting as possible. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more about how to do it.
Design A Texture Wall
You might already know that you can have a feature wall, but that usually means making it a different color to the rest of the room, or maybe using art, photos, or wallpaper to make it stand out. However, you could go one step further and actually design yourself a fantastic texture wall instead.
The name tells you all you need to know about what this kind of feature really is – it’s a wall that has a variety of different textures on it (or just one texture if you prefer, as long as it’s different compared to the rest of the walls in the room – that’s the main point). So you might have natural wood panels, exposed brick, cork or fabric elements, and so on – the key is to add some kind of tactile feel to the wall so it’s very different and totally unique.
Have A No Tech Zone
If you want a really easy but perhaps unusual way to make your living areas a lot more welcoming and inviting, what about making them no tech zones? In other words, no screens are allowed in the living area (and you can even extend that to the TV if you want to – there’s no rule that says you have to have one in the living room, or even that you have to have one at all!), and although that might seem like a tricky thing to do (we’re all at least a little addicted to that kind of tech, and if you’ve got teenagers, they’ll certainly be used to scrolling at all times), it could be the exact thing that makes your living room such a great place to be.
You can make the entire room tech-free, or you could just partition a bit of it and create a lovely space where no tech is allowed – all a cozy seating arrangement, a low table, and some things to occupy people like books, games, puzzles, or music, for example. It might be a challenge to do it, but once it’s done, having that space, no matter how big or small it might be, is sure to make a difference and make the room a nicer place to be.
Install A Fireplace
If you’ve got the option, nothing really beats the charm of a gorgeous fireplace in your living room. You could have a wood-burning or gas fireplace, and whatever you choose, it’s sure to (literally) bring warmth into your room with that unmistakable crackling sound, an inviting glow, and a feeling of happiness that you’re not going to find if you just heat your room with a standard – and rather boring – radiator.
The great thing about a fireplace is that it gives you an instant focal point without you having to do that much – even when it’s not actually lit, it’s still something people tend to gather around. And you can choose from all kinds of different surrounds, like brick or stone or maybe even a vintage Victorian iron version, and you’ll get the look you want that can match the rest of the room perfectly.
Use Smells Wisely
Something else that’s sure to make a room feel wonderful and like somewhere you want to spend some time is a nice smell, and although your mind might instantly go to the air fresheners you can buy in any supermarket, that might not be your best bet.
The fact is that those scents can be off-putting because they can be very strong, not strong enough, or just smell really fake, which isn’t very pleasant. That’s why it’s far better to choose natural scents if you can, in the form of flowers or herbs and spices, or whatever it is you’re going for. You can either do that or you can use natural diffusers, specially made candles, or incense – as long as it’s natural and not made from chemicals, it should do the job perfectly.
