Are you scared of a bit of color? It might seem like a strange question, but a lot of people do have a fear of it, at least when it comes to adding it to their homes – but there’s no need to be afraid because adding color can work so well and it’s the ideal way to express your personality and make your home feel more like yours. Start With Small Accents

One of the easiest ways to get started with adding color to your home is to add some smaller accent pieces rather than going straight in with bold, bold pieces that are all about color (of course, there’s nothing wrong with these, and you can add them later – in fact, you probably shoulder – but to start with, keep things simple so you can start to get an idea of what you like and what works for you).

When we say small accents, that’s things like throws, cushions, blankets, artwork, and so on – little things that you can add and remove easily and that you can change if you want to. Having this flexibility is fantastic as it means you can experiment without spending a lot of money or having loads of work done on the house, which is why it’s such a good place to start.

Have An Anchor

In any room you might be decorating, having some kind of anchor is a wise choice – it’s literally the thing you can hang every other design choice on, and if it happens to be an anchor that’s full of color, that’s going to ensure you make the right choices about which colors to use, and ensure you don’t overwhelm the room because you already know how much color you want. In other words, if the biggest thing is taken care of, the smaller things are easier to handle.

In a living room, for example, you might pick a sofa to be your anchor, and in a dining room, you could opt for blue dining chairs to give you the color you need without giving the room too much color (which can be as bad as not having enough). These types of anchors can add some personality to a room, giving it a base color to work from, and ensure you don’t go over the top because you’ve got to keep them in mind at all times.

Use Color In Unexpected Places

If you’re looking to add a touch of sophistication and surprise to your decor, what about adding color in unusual and unexpected places? One idea could be to paint the inside of a bookshelf in a bright color, for example, or you could add colorful wallpaper to the back of cabinets or even paint the back of a door.

What’s great about this is that you’ll get the pop of color you want without it taking over the entire room, and because it’s unexpected to find that pop of color, it’s going to bring extra joy to people when they see it, which is always a positive thing.
