Foundation Issues Will Prevent You From Ever Perfecting Home Decor, And Here’s Why

You deserve to love the home you’re in, and home decor makes that possible. Trinkets, soft furnishings, and general color choices can all turn a good room into a great one. Most importantly, decor is the deciding factor that makes this space truly yours. You won’t want anything to stand in the way of that, which is why it can be so unpleasant when foundation issues rear their ugly heads.

We all know that foundation issues are bad news, but did you know that these red flags could also end up undoing your decor efforts? This alone could prevent you from loving your property as you rightly should. In this article, we’ll consider why that happens, and what you can do about it.

# 1 – The Constant Risk of Cracks

Decor additions like gallery walls and shelving can add untold character to your rooms, creating areas of both interest and personalization. Unfortunately, their impact will be significantly less if you’re also dealing with foundation issues that create visible cracks.

Unfortunately, these cracks, which can affect plaster and paintwork, are one of the leading reasons why homeowners seek foundation repair. They happen due to unwanted foundational movement, and once they become visible like this, it’s a sure sign of a serious problem. Not to mention that, as they grow, cracks could cause pictures to fall from your gallery wall or, at the very least, can make even your best decor efforts look like a bit of an eyesore.

# 2 – Materials That Simply Can’t Manage

You’ll likely use a variety of materials in your home decor quest, including vinyl flooring, carpets and rugs, and much more. These additions can serve to add color and texture, and may even hide sins like unruly floorboards. Unfortunately, those materials could also become a little unruly themselves if foundational issues are left to run riot.

That’s because ongoing foundation problems like subsidence can lead to visibly sloped floors that these materials simply aren’t built to deal with. This can be especially bad news for vinyl overlays, which will inevitably become warped, ripped, and outright unappealing. Even rugs that you place on sloped floors could end up looking a little worse for wear if you don’t look into all-important stabilizing repairs.

# 3 – The Cleanliness Curse

We all know that home decor should be clean to truly shine, which is why we take the time to dust and polish all of those shelves and decor knick-knacks. Unfortunately, even your best efforts here might not help, considering that ongoing foundation problems can result in a house that simply never stays clean.

Dirt, mud, and dust can all increase when you’re dealing with issues like cracks that create an in-point, or large foundational gaps that let unwanted mess in. This can quickly lead to even new decor items looking grubby and unclean shortly after you’ve spruced them up. Getting to the root of the problem is your only chance of keeping them looking clean, lovely, and as beneficial for your rooms as they should.
