5 Ways to Make a Road Trip Feel Like a Luxury Vacation

Road trips are often perceived as a form of budget travel, in which you and your loved ones spend a week “roughing it” while driving up and down the country in a cramped vehicle. But this does not have to be the case. If you have the funds for it, your next cross-country adventure could be just as luxurious and extravagant as any five-star resort. You just have to make a few smart upgrades and plan ahead when it comes to pushing the boat out. To get you started, here are five great ways to make your upcoming road trip feel more premium.

Upgrade your vehicle

Turning your car into a cozy, decadent space can make all the difference to your comfort levels on the trip. If you feel cramped and irritated, it’s not a luxury trip. Firstly, make sure your car is clean and clutter free before embarking. Then fill the space with comfy items like blankets, neck pillows, and seat cushions. Add your favourite playlist and a pleasantly-scented car diffuser to complete the vibe. If you have the budget for it, you could even hire a more spacious vehicle such as a campervan or even a motorhome for the journey.

Choose the scenic route

Avoiding the highways will be a much more pleasant experience, sacrificing fast miles for tranquility and scenic views. When planning your route, fill it with picturesque driving such as coastal routes, countryside roads and mountain passes. The journey will be slower but far more memorable. Schedule stops at various viewpoints, cafes, and small towns along the route. Slowing down and enjoying the adventure turns it into a much more indulgent experience.

Stay somewhere special

Your choice of accommodation is your chance to really make your trip a decadent one. For ultimate luxury, boutique hotels, countryside cabins, or well-equipped holiday rentals. Even when you’re in the middle of the wilderness, a well-equipped campsite or RV park with great amenities can offer a comfortable and unique overnight experience. You want to make sure you can get great sleep in stunning, peaceful surroundings.

Elevate your food and drink game

You don’t want to be munching on soggy gas station sandwiches while taking the trip of a lifetime. Plan ahead when it comes to your food and drink options, picking restaurants, diners and cafes en route that serve excellent meals. When eating establishments are sparse, pack a high-quality picnic to eat at a scenic viewpoint. Make sure the car is well stocked with your favourite drinks and snacks so you never get hungry. Food should be an integral part of the experience, not just fuel.

Build in relaxation time

Finally, make sure you build in some downtime to take a break from driving and enjoy your surroundings. Allow for some space in the itinerary for slow mornings, spontaneous detours and extra time in the places you love. True luxury is being able to enjoy the moment without rushing. Approach your trip with thoughtful intention, and take it one step at a time.
