Furniture Alternatives For Small Spaces

This is a contributed post with affiliate links

A small home can be challenging to furnish. If your living space is limited, check out this previous post https://thedesigntourist.com  and read on.  Often it’s not the clutter but rather the bulky furniture wasting space.  Here are several alternatives to standard-size furniture to live large in small spaces.

Sofa

Typically a sofa provides the main seating area in the family room or living room but if your space is limited, consider a beanbag chair. Check out www.ComfySacks.com for more and see what bean bags have to offer. Remember that they are incredibly comfy, more so than a sofa and that they are sleeker and smaller. You can even move it around without any hassle.

Freestanding Desk

Many modern bedrooms have a freestanding desk to accommodate working from home.  These types of desks can be bulky, space-wasters. Consider mounting a desk worktop in the bedroom to the wall. That way, there are no legs that stick out and get in the way. All there is is a piece of wood with plenty of places to work and store things.

Dining Table

Do you use your dining table often? Some people do because they are keen on entertaining and eating as a family. Still, lots of people, especially couples who are millennials, are too busy and always on-the-go. Yet, there is a huge piece of wood with accompanying chairs sitting in the kitchen. It’s a massive waste and you can replace it quite easily with a café style shelf. Starbucks has them at the windows, and you can put one in the corner too. It uses space that’s hard to fill and it’s very personal because you can sit side-by-side and enjoy a meal.

Bed

There may be a room in the house that needs a bit of renovating such as the guest bedroom where you store clutter. With a wall-mounted mattress, you can maximize the space instead of tucking things under the bed. Because it uses wall space, it’s better than a sofa-bed.
