Finish Home Repairs Before saying Goodbye to Summer!

Now that summer is in full swing, it can be all too tempting to spend whatever free time you have, relaxing in your home or garden.

However, it is important to keep an eye on the state of your property and backyard, and it’s advisable to complete any repairs that are necessary, before the arrival of fall. With this in mind, here are the top five home repairs to finish before the end of the summer.

1.   Gutters & Drainage

One of the most important tasks to undertake throughout the summer months, is sorting out the guttering around your house and associated drainage systems.

Take the time to either personally, or else hire a company to, thoroughly clean all guttering of debris, dry leaves, lumps of mud, and any other foreign substances. Additionally, if a heavy storm occurs after you have cleaned the guttering, you should check again for additional debris.

2.   Air Flow in the Attic

Your attic is usually the area of a property which is most often neglected, and it’s a surprise to many, how important it is, in matters relating to energy efficiency, to have it properly and regularly cleaned by reputable air duct specialists, such as Attic Project Services.

You should regularly check that there are no leaks in your attic space, and that the insulation is still serving its purpose and does not need replacing.

3.   Deck Maintenance

If you are lucky enough to have a deck in your backyard, or even in your front garden, then one of the most important home repairs and maintenance checks to complete through the summertime, is to ensure your deck is well looked after and ready for the winter months.

From replacing any deck boards which appear broken or moldy, and combating any signs of deck wood deterioration – to fixing any loose nails, and cleaning and staining the entirety of the wood, make sure not to neglect your deck this summer.

It may well be the case that you are fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood with a low crime rate, however it is always a good idea to install outdoor security lights at both the front and the back of your property – this might deter a potential perpetrator.

Illuminating your yard, driveway or stairs, can also prevent accidents – it might save you, or someone else, from tripping over an unseen garden hose, for example, or slipping on icy ground in bad weather.

Finally, but just as importantly, you should endeavor to pay attention to the front of your garage door, especially if you have a property layout whereby the garage is an extension of your home and you use the area for more than just storage.

A fresh lick of paint give your garage that much sought-after curb appeal! It is also important to lubricate the rollers and hinges, to ensure that it’s in good working order before fall sets in.
